EMC Sports -Brighton - The Cold Creek Midget B Comets advanced to the semi-final round by defeating the Otonabee Wolverines last week in Lower Lake Female Hockey League (LLFHL) east division play-off action.

On February 7 at Brighton arena, the Comets won 3 -2 thanks to a hat trick scored by Emma Smith with assists from Nicole Vincent, Megan Fisher, Jenna Davis and Renee Abbott.
Last weekend, at Keene, the Comets took the best-of-three series with a 3 -1 victory powered by goals from Amber Kent (two), both unassisted wrist shots from the blue line, and Smith, assisted by Amanda Lajoie.
Goaltender Katie Lewis picked up both wins in net.
The next series will be a challenge. The Comets lost both of their two regular season matchups against the LLFHL east division leaders, the Lindsay Lynx. But that was then and this is the playoffs, where, sometimes, history can be meaningless. Some rinkside pundits view the regular season as a three-and-a-half-month-long practice to get to the games that count.
But to give antecedents their due, the Lynx won 19, lost two and tied one while scoring 107 goals and allowing only 13 in the regular season. The Comets won 16, lost five and tied one as they tallied 89 goals and allowed 23 for a fourth-place finish.
In all, 32 teams began the play-offs but only four division winners will advance to LLFHL championship weekend to be held from March 30 to April 1 at Mississauga.
As well, in the sometimes confusing world of female hockey, as the league play-offs are still going strong, the Comets will begin their quest for an Ontario Women's Hockey Association (OWHA) championship at press time Tuesday against the Peterborough Ice Kats.
